RESIDENT SCHOLAR PROGRAM

"It gave me real-life work experience, and I got to see people doing what I want to do, which showed me that I can do it too." -2015 P&G SCHOLAR

"It gave me the confidence to pursue engineering in college and the desire to work for a great company like P&G when I graduated." -Oli Ononye, P&G Engineer (2006 Scholar)

Program Background

Inspiring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) in the next generation is a shared responsibility across academia, industry, and government as evident by the recent surge of efforts across the country.  Opportunities that aid in demystifying these types of careers have demonstrated they have a role to play.  The Resident Scholar Program, which began at Procter & Gamble in 2004, is one such opportunity.  It is a unique interactive job shadowing experience for high school students interested in careers leveraging STEM degrees.  The participants are exposed to the exciting world of the sponsoring companies.  The experience inspires them to envision the possibilities for a rewarding career in the STEM disciplines.

How does it work?

We will work directly with participating organizations and their tech career professionals to...

1.  Help determine the area of your business to engage the young scholars.

2.  Provide guidance on building your RSP Job Shadow Volunteer Team

3.  Provide a “ How to…” Kit for step-by-step actions to deliver an engaging experience.

Our Program Creator

Andrea Bowens-Jones PhD

The Resident Scholar Program (RSP) was birthed out of personal passion in 2004 while I was working at P&G.  As a black woman scientist, I believe I have a responsibility to make room for the little black girls coming behind me by helping them visualize their possibilities. Through RSP I have been able to do that. Developing RSP gave me the opportunity to demystifying what a career in STEM looks like by giving students the opportunity to experience it firsthand.

“It’s hard to aspire to become something to which you’ve not been exposed. The Resident Scholar Program was birthed out of the desire to paint the picture of what’s possible for little girls that look like me.” -Andrea
